IN THE ARCHITECTS WORDS
Coopers Peak residential development is sited on a triangular shaped corner site in Bellevue Hill and is an amalgamation of 4 residential lots. The development is organized in three distinct pavilions of nine apartments with each apartment occupying an entire floor alone. The three pavilions are sited within abundantly landscaped gardens of both a private and common nature. With strongly articulated face brick bases lightweight upper levels and broad eaves, each pavilion presents to the street as a large house rather than as a block of apartments. Two pedestrian cores separate the pavilions and are incorporated within the mass of the residential blocks and appear as chimney like elements. These entry cores allow wider and more transparent pedestrian access into the buildings and provide view corridors from public spaces through the development to the valley beyond. pedestrian access are provided from Cooper Park Rd. The site has a substantial slope from Bellevue Rd down to Cooper Park Rd and the development is tiered to follow the slope. The tiered forms ensure that the apartments gain increased solar access whilst minimizing overshadowing within the site and of the adjoining properties. Apartments to the bottom levels have varying extensive gardens and the top apartments include generous terraces. By utilizing wide planters to terraces and wide sills to windows the privacy of adjoining properties and other apartments within the development are maintained. The development was carefully planned to retain a number of existing mature trees. The basement garage provides private and visitor carparking and also contains a 30,000 litre rainwater storage tank. The tank is fed by a natural spring on the site and is used for garden irrigation throughout the development.
