EPRA Offices / Old Bakery Redevelopment
by Jeff Considine - Considine Architects

IN THE ARCHITECTS WORDS

The East Perth Redevelopment Authority (EPRA) decied to redevelop the Old Lindsay Street Bakery - a significant landmark in Northbridge, to demonstrate exemplary conservation practices and sustainable development principles and create a contemporary office. The three storey thick brick walled Bakery was erected 100 years ago with high ceiling single storey brick addition to the east built in the 1940's. This open plan industrial building was ideally suited to conversion into an office building with generous spaces and a rich variety of industrial materials and finishes. The original structure was renovated and converted into open plan offices and expanded to the north with the addition

of concrete walled office and staircase areas featuring high curved form roof. Thermally efficient insulated concrete wall office and staircase areas are featured in the new office. Appropriate ESD principles have been incorporated into all aspects of the redveelopment. The design philosophy was to conserve and restore the original building fabric to the former Federation and mid-century era states. All new work was designed to be sympathetic to the heritage building as well as highlighting modern architecture and interior design character. A rich vocabulary of office spaces have been created to suit the current a future needs of the East Perth Redevelopment Authority.
